English Congregation Pastor
Summary
The Pastor is expected to provide spiritual leadership for the English speaking congregation, including teaching, discipleship, development of leaders, and evangelism. He also must work in harmony with the Chinese-speaking congregation to carry out the vision and values established by the Deacon and Elder Boards for the church as a whole.
Responsibilities
- Plan and participate in an effective and engaging weekly Worship Service.
- Preach three times per month (average) at the English Worship Service.
- Arrange for appropriate guest preachers when not personally available, or as will benefit the congregation.
- In conjunction with the English Ministry Committee, coordinate the fellowship and outreach ministries of the congregation.
- Provide teaching, discipleship, and leadership development for members of the congregation.
- Develop the evangelism ministry through modeling, instruction, and encouragement.
- Provide pastoral care, including visitation of the sick, consolation of the bereaved, pre-marital and marital counseling, and other needs as circumstances dictate.
- Along with the pastor of the Chinese-speaking congregation, assist in overseeing the church staff, including the Youth Director, Children’s Ministry Director, and administrative and facility positions.
- Provide orientation and education opportunities for new members of the church, both for transferred membership and for new believers.
- Perform (or arrange for another minister or elder to perform) the sacraments of communion and baptism, as well as matrimony and funeral rites as needed.
- Attend all official Elder Board, Deacon Board, and English Ministry Committee meetings and provide vision, direction, and development for these bodies.
- Work in conjunction with the pastor of the Chinese-speaking congregation to coordinate church-wide fellowship, outreach, and worship services.
- Serve as a primary means of communication between the Chinese and English speaking congregations.
- Represent the church in community and ministry environments.
